Round 8 GT2 American Sprint Kyalami 2007-10-24 13:23
It was a rather hot day in South Africa just north of Johannesburg at Kyalami circuit for round 8 of the TPG American GT2 Sprint. The anxious drivers lined up on the grid in a familiar sequence lead by Eric Schmeider capturing his sixth pole of the season followed by team mate Mike Roth, both of Team SAR.

As usual the green flag was waved and the pace was immediately fierce. Schmeider was able to put some breathing room between he and Roth early as third place Mike Edwards of Team Hotwheels tried to pressure his way into second. As it turned out the first five cars on the grid held their respective positions for the first several laps. Soon promising rookie, Jason Elrod, capitalized on a mistake by Rabbito and moved to fifth place behind Brian Venable.

Meanwhile rookie Eric Batch was trying to hold off Dwight Lewis and did for all except the last lap when a mistake by Batch cost him dearly. Both these drivers are new to the 360 GTC and doing a fine job with it so far. Not surprising Schmeider had another flawless race and crossed the line for his fifth straight win moving him to a solid first place in driver points. TPG league GM, Stephen Bopple, brought his Porsche home in fine condition to win the GT2 Classic division. Next round is Oschersleben Novenber 5, don't miss it!

Good thing TPG has fun races scheduled for rFactor and Race '07 to unwind from the tense championship events. Join us on the grid for a variety racing enjoyment here at TPG while we anticipate the next exciting Sprint and Enduro events.
